Experiences

Nestled amidst the serene landscapes of the Northern Wairarapa region, Ranginui Retreat offers a sanctuary for travelers seeking tranquility and adventure. As a boutique lodge, Ranginui Retreat curates an unforgettable experience, harmonizing luxurious accommodations with the natural beauty of the surrounding area. Walk through the most incredible bush and forests, stroll along beautiful, deserted beaches, play golf on a 120-year-old course, visit New Zealand’s national bird sanctuary, taste fabulous wines, gaze at the stars in one of the World's largest dark-sky reserves, or helicopter into the most pristine rivers and bushland. For more information on each of these amazing experiences click on the tabs below At Ranginui Retreat, every moment is an invitation to connect with nature, oneself, and the welcoming spirit of the Northern Wairarapa. Whether unwinding in the comfort of elegantly appointed accommodations or embarking on a journey of exploration and discovery, guests are sure to depart with cherished memories and a renewed sense of wonder.

We can arrange tour guides, hunting and fishing guides, scenic flights, wine tours, or visits to one of the Wairarapa’s iconic sheep and beef farms to see sustainable farming at its best. Many of these experiences are available only minutes from our Wairarapa accommodation and we love nothing better than to show our guests some of the highlights of our terrific backyard.

At Ranginui Retreat we are located right at the heart of the Classic New Zealand Wine Trail and we are extremely fortunate to have amazing wineries, olive groves, gardens, food producers, and artists nearby. We love supporting our local community and can organise visits and tastings at several wineries situated within either a short walk across the neighbors paddocks, a five-minute drive away, or via a lovely drive through the Wairarapa countryside. They are all run by friendly, genuine, and passionate owners who would love to welcome you in.

There are also different events being hosted in the Wairarapa virtually every weekend; be it wine and food festivals, horse trials, art exhibitions, drag racing, air shows, garden tours, sporting events or farmers markets. If you’re wondering what’s on during your visit, get in touch or visit the Destination Wairarapa website.
